The Zinkenkogel (1,336 m) – your excursion destination just outside the gates of Salzburg – offers a magnificent panoramic view from Untersberg (Berchtesgadener Hochthron, Mittagsscharte to Salzburger Hochthron) encompassing Gaisberg, Schwarzenberg, Wieserhörndl, Schafberg, Schlenken, Trattberg, and all the way to Dachstein.
From the summit cross of Zinkenkogel (only 6 minutes from the mountain station), you can extend your gaze over Hohen Göll, Kehlsteinhaus, Obersalzberg, and Berchtesgaden. The hiking trails lead through fields and forests and are suitable for both – young and old.
At an elevation of 1,336m, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire surrounding area.
The valley station of the chairlift is easily accessible by car as well as by public transport.
The starting point for all hikes is the parking lot at the valley station.
Hiking Routes on Dürrnberg
Zinkenkogel via Wasserleitungsweg
Difficulty level: moderate – Duration: one way approximately 2 hours
Directions:
From the parking lot of Zinkenlifte, follow a short stretch of asphalt road and turn right into a small field path, then the path leads up through the ski slope to the district of Gmerk. At “Sulzauhof,” turn right and then take the next left until you reach the Gmerk border point. Shortly after, the so-called “Wasserleitungsweg” branches off to the left. Follow this path parallel to Roßfeldstraße until you reach Ferienhaus Heißbäck. Turn left at the vacation home and continue uphill for about 20 minutes towards Zinkenkogel.
At this point, you have two options: either take the sharply left-turning Alpine trail – which leads to the summit in about 40 minutes – or take the more leisurely path that merges into the “Wichtelwanderweg”. Behind the summit cross, a narrow path leads to the mountain restaurant “Zinkenstüberl”, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and have a pleasant break with a good snack.
For the descent, the path runs along the lift on a gravel road. At a fork in the road, turn left, walk across a meadow, following the course of the summer toboggan run, and return to the parking lot of Zinkenlifte.
For the way down, you can either use the summer toboggan run for an adventurous experience or, for those less daring, take the comfortable double chairlift.
Zinkenkogel via Abtswald, Predigtstuhl and Stockerhöhe
Difficulty level: moderate – Duration: approximately 1,5 hours
Directions:
From the parking lot of the valley station, follow the asphalt road uphill until you reach the barrier at Hinterstockergut. Then, continue uphill on the forest road towards “Predigtstuhl”. At the road fork, turn right towards Zinkenkogel. The path follows the toboggan run until you reach the mountain restaurant “Zinkenstüberl”. The route is moderately steep, partially passing through the forest, and offers beautiful views of the Salzachtal.
There is also a shortcut to Zinkenkogel via the eastern slope (used as a ski tour ascent in winter). The path is partially steep and exposed to the sun.
For the descent, follow the path along the lift on a gravel road. At a fork in the road, turn left, cross a meadow, following the course of the summer toboggan run, and return to the parking lot of the valley station.
for the descent, you can also choose to use the summer toboggan run for an adventurous ride or – for a comfortable trip down – the double chairlift.
Zinkenkogel via Gmerk, Stockerhöhe
Difficulty level: easy – Duration: approximately 1 hour
Description:
From the parking lot of the valley station, follow the paved road for a short distance and turn right onto a small country lane (access road to the houses), then the trail leads up the ski slope to the Gmerk district.
At the “Sulzauhof” turn left and follow the path to the Stockerhöhe, then along the toboggan run to the mountain restaurant “Zinkenstüberl“.
However, you can also go downhill with the summer toboggan run or comfortably with the double chairlift.
